New leadership at Fort Belvoir: COL Greg Gadson - The Army's first double amputee post commanderTuesday, June 26, 2012
Fort Belvoir is under new leadership as of today. On Monday morning, Belvoir's new commander, Colonel Gregory Gadson received the Fort Belvoir command flag from outgoing commander Colonel John Strycula.
Gadson, the Director of the U.S. Army Wounded Warrior Program, is a 27-year Army veteran with three Bronze Star medals, a Purple Heart and Iraq and Afghanistan combat medals. He's a graduate of West Point Strycula, who was base commander since July 2010, oversaw the final stages of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) implementation and a massive increase to the population of Belvoir. He is taking an assignment in Afghanistan.
Installation Management Command’s Commanding General, Lieutenant General Michael Ferriter presided at the ceremony.
